Over the last four years, our Animal Food Bank played an integral role in providing support to pets of evacuees providing hundreds of thousands of pounds of food into Western Canada when no other organization could do so. We did this without funding and with a dedicated team of volunteers. The occurrence natural disasters, including fires and floods, is increasing.
Often evacuees will find limited or no pet food and supplies available to them at evacuation centres. Without organizations like our Animal Food Bank sending providing pet food and supplies into evacuation centres and communities, thousands of evacuees would not have received help with their pets.
The importance of pre-planning for emergencies cannot be overstated. Having a to-go bag for you pet(s) is incredibly important and could make a life or death different. We encourage everyone to have a pet pack ready to go. Learn more about what you should pack here.
